Film: Smoke Signals, Chris Eyre. In 1998, Smoke Signals came out and I was 12 years old. I’d never seen a movie before that had a full Indigenous cast, which was set and filmed on a reservation. It’s iconic and it’s likely your Indigenous brothers and sisters know the scene where Thomas Builds-the-Fire says “Hey, Victor! I heard your Dad left!”
Trip: In 2022 I went to Australia to present some of my research/graphic recording work at an international Indigenous education conference. Australia is breathtaking and it was a privilege to meet Indigenous people there and learn from and be hosted by them.
Advice: go to school, make us proud
